I don't think you can name an airline a company that has just one small aircraft in its fleet.

why not? a company that takes people from one place to another, by air, and makes a proffit out of it, is an airline... wether it has one small plane or a hudred big ones...
or where does the border of being an airline begins?

You are right, wikipedia knows them all: Airlines vary from those with a single airplane carrying mail or cargo, through full-service international airlines operating many hundreds of airplanes. Airline services can be categorized as being intercontinental, intracontinental, or domestic and may be operated as scheduled services or charters.

That's not true at all Virusu. I'm not sure how it works in Europe with the JAA but in Canada there are different types of "commercial air service" if you want to call it that way. Basically, some sort of business that makes a profit from offering aerial services.

According to Transpor Canada and the "Canadian Aviation Regulations", these are some of the examples:

702 - Aerial Work Operations
703 - Air taxi Operations
704 - Commuter Operations
705 - Airline Operations

A company can call itself an "airline" if it follows the rules as per Canadian Aviation Regulations and meets such standards... So someone offering sightseeing tours on a Cessna 172 would not fit that cattegory.

If you guys have nothing better to do, you can start reading this. It covers the rules of what I've mentioned above.

As an off topic, I've had a lot of people ask:

"Do you think the pilots will let me in the cockpit during the flight?" Well at least in Canada... here's your answer:

Admission to Flight Deck

705.27 (1) Where a Department of Transport air carrier inspector presents an official identity card to the pilot-in-command of an aircraft, the pilot-in-command shall give the inspector free and uninterrupted access to the flight deck of the aircraft.

(2) An air operator and the pilot-in-command shall make available for the use of the air carrier inspector the observer seat most suitable to perform the inspector's duties, as determined by the inspector.

(3) No person shall be admitted to the flight deck of an aeroplane other than
(amended 2002/03/21; previous version)

(a) a flight crew member;

(b) a crew member performing their duties;

(c) an inspector referred to in subsection (1);

(d) in accordance with the procedures specified in the company operations manual,

(i) an employee of the air operator who is not a crew member performing their duties, and

(ii) a pilot, flight engineer or flight attendant employed by a wholly owned subsidiary or a code share partner of the air operator; and

(e) a person who has expertise related to the aeroplane, its equipment or its crew members and who is required to be in the flight deck to provide a service to the air operator.

No.. not really... because what you're saying is that they can all be called an airline... which is not true...

An Air Taxi operator is an Air Taxi operator and NOT an airline....
