Titlu: AirAsia Wants To Rival Southwest

Citat :
Being number one in Asia is no longer enough for low-cost airline boss Tony Fernandes. Now he wants to double the size of Malaysian carrier AirAsia's fleet to catch up with industry titan Southwest Airlines.

Fernandes indicated ambitious plans for Asia's largest low-cost carrier as he closed in on a potentially massive deal to buy Airbus aircraft, which could rival a recent USD$16 billion, 180-plane deal as one of the world's largest.

The expansion plan reflects confidence in a fast-growing Asian transport market which continues at a blistering pace despite concerns over fuel prices.

"We have done a study (which shows) that AirAsia has a potential to have about 500 planes... that we could be the size of Southwest Airlines. That would give you some idea; we already have an order of 175 or so," he told reporters in an interview.

"The market is big and the market is growing. We are in a fantastic playground, Asia Pacific," Fernandes said.

Such a deal could make Malaysian group AirAsia to Airbus what Southwest is to Boeing, dominating the customer list for their respective narrow-body airliners.

Texas-based Southwest Airlines started operations after a legal battle in 1971 and has grown into the world's top low-cost airline with a fleet of 548 Boeing aircraft.

AirAsia already has the largest number of A320 aircraft on order of any airline, second only to a US-based leasing company.

Fernandes is looking at placing a big order for A320neos, a revamped version of Airbus's best-selling, medium-haul plane.

Airbus has been under pressure to deliver on pledges to announce hundreds of sales of the A320neo at the Paris air show on June 20-26, as rival Boeing tries to persuade airlines to hold off and wait for an even bolder potential redesign of its 737.

The timing appears to support AirAsia. "I am never one who particularly likes air shows, but aircraft manufacturers like air shows so let us wait and see," Fernandes said.

CARS, PLANES AND TWEETS

The Malaysian entrepreneur was speaking in the Team Lotus motorhome on the eve of the Spanish Grand Prix.

He has spent the past few days shuttling between the United States, Spain and France to negotiate a deal almost certain to be well over USD$10 billion for aircraft and engines and to indulge his passion for motor racing -- as principal of Team Lotus.

Wearing a bright red AirAsia-branded cap, Fernandes said the airline's links to popular Formula One had boosted its growth.

"The AirAsia brand is growing rapidly and it is a lot to do with this, and me wearing this cap... We are only nine years old and I am talking about 500 planes."

In a sign of the stakes involved for engine makers as well as the plane's designers, Fernandes held talks last week with the chief executive of General Electric, the co-parent of a French-US joint venture that competes to supply engines.

GE and French partner Safran are trailing well behind Pratt & Whitney in the battle to supply engines for the A320neo.

Indian discount carrier Indigo chose Pratt over GE-Safran joint venture CFM International to power a fleet of 180 A320neo jets provisionally ordered earlier this year.

"I was in GE. We have been in discussions with Pratt. I flew from there to Barcelona, Barcelona to Nice, so although I am running a Formula One team it has been a very, very productive last few days for AirAsia," Fernandes said.

In sharp contrast with the secrecy surrounding most aircraft deals, Fernandes, an avid user of Twitter, has chatted openly about his whereabouts as he played off big-time manufacturers.

"For a Fortune top 25 company his humility is great," Fernandes noted after meeting GE chief executive Jeffrey Immelt.

On Friday, it was reported Fernandes was close to a big Airbus deal after he tweeted he was off to Nice for talks. Fernandes confirmed afterwards that a deal could be "imminent".

"I touched down and I saw a Google alert and my tweet was picked up. Welcome to the new world," Fernandes said.

Citat :

O alta info interesanta in articol : cursa Kuala Lumpur Londra pierde in favoarea KL - Paris (Orly).

- Stacy Wong.

Are dreptate iar tu faci misto.

Citat :
Long-haul budget carrier AirAsia X has written in to the Ministry of Transport on its plans to withdraw its services to Paris, London, Mumbai and Delhi, according to a source.
It is understood that the routes are losing money and that AirAsia X could stop flying there as early as February
http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIMES/articles/20111219231932/Article/index_html

AirAsia will be assisting guests in transferring between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports

Citat :
AirAsia to Transfer Bangkok Flight Operations to Don Mueang Airport from October 1st, 2012
1.Why is AirAsia transferring its operations to Don Mueang Airport?

Suvarnabhumi Airport is currently the busiest airport in ASEAN which results in air traffic congestion especially during peak hours. We plan to increase our fleet to 48 Airbus A320s from the current 24, and the move to Don Mueang Airport will be able to comfortably accommodate this expansion as well as provide convenience to our guests given the closer proximity to Bangkok City Center.

2. When will AirAsia start operations in Don Mueang?

From 1 October 2012 onwards.

3A. When will I receive my revised itinerary to reflect DMK airport code (Don Mueang) instead of BKK airport code?

For affected guests traveling from October 1 onwards, we will send you your revised itinerary at least one month prior to your departure date.

3B. Why do I see 'Bangkok - BAK' when I am booking my tickets on www.airasia.com? How do I know which airport in Bangkok my booking is being made for?
You will see Bangkok (BAK) for selection while making a booking. System will auto-assign Suvarnabhumi (BKK) or Don Mueang (DMK) based on the date of travel. DMK will apply to all travel starting from 1 October 2012. Your itineraries and boarding passes will show DMK or BKK so please take note of which airport you will be arriving at or departing from.

4. What assistance will AirAsia be providing for affected guests?

The following options are available for flights in and out of Bangkok:
(1) Schedule a new flight on the same route: Passengers may reschedule their flight on the same route to a flight taking place either 7 days before or after their original flight date at no additional cost.
(2) Credit Shell: The cost of the flight is converted into credit, which may be used within 90 days of issue.

Guests who purchased their flights before 26 June 2012, with travel dates from 1 October 2012 onwards will be contacted by our team via email, sms or by phone. Please ensure all your details are up to date in your AirAsia member profile.

If you have any urgent matters you may contact our call centres (Thai Call Center: +66 2 515 9999 Operating Hours: 8am-9pm GMT +7). For further inquiries you can:
- tweet us at Twitter: twitter.com/askairasia
- leave a comment here: www.facebook.com/airasiathailand OR www.facebook.com/airasia
- chat to us on Live Chat: http://chat3d.livechatinc.com/licence/1240461/open_chat.cgi?groups=0
- submit an Online Feedback Form: http://www.airasia.com/my/en/faqdetailsform.page
- contact our other call centers or walk in to our Travel Service Centers, details: http://www.airasia.com/my/en/contactus.page

What documents will I need to provide to obtain credit shell or flight change?
You will qualify for credit shell or flight change if you have a connecting flight to/from Suvarnabhumi with another airline that is not AirAsia. To enable us to prioritse your request and process it as quickly as possible, you will need to provide us with the itinerary or booking confirmation of your connecting flight.

5. Will the transfer affect the schedule of guests who have already booked their flights?

Your flight schedule and times will not be affected. If you are traveling on or after 1 October 2012 the only change will be the airport codes. Your itinerary will be revised and resent to you to reflect new airport code for Don Mueang (DMK) instead of BKK for Bangkok.

Guests who have already made their bookings can continue to follow the timing of their original schedules.

6. What terminal will AirAsia be operating in? Where will I check-in?

All of AirAsia check-in services and administrative offices will be stationed at Don Mueang Airport Terminal 1 from October 1, 2012.

7. How far is Suvarnabhumi from Don Mueang airport?

The distance between the two airports are approximately 45km. Travel time is usually 45 minutes but during peak hours can take up to 1.5-2.0 hours. Make sure you allocate as much time as possible.

8. Will AirAsia be assisting guests in transferring between Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports?
We are pleased to announce that we have been working with Airports of Thailand to offer free shuttle busses for guests to transfer between the two airports. We will notify you of the running schedule of this free shuttle.
There are other options if you so wish, refer to http://www.bangkokairportonline.com/node/56
for more information on Bus Number 554 from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Don Mueang Airport. This service is provided from the Suvarnabhumi Bus Terminal at the Transport Center.

9. How far is Don Mueang airport from Bangkok City Center?
It is about 30 km (19 miles) north of downtown Bangkok. Please refer here for details on transportation to and from Don Mueang airport.

Taxi

The easiest way to get downtown is by taxi, but be mindful that the journey can take anything from 45 minutes (non-peak hour traffic during the week and weekends) and 1-2 hours (peak hour). The public taxi is arranged to park at provided area within the airport. When passenger request for taxi service by contacting at taxi service counter in front of passenger terminal, the taxi then will drive from the provided area to the terminal to pick up the passenger. Passenger also needs to pay 50 Baht surcharge apart from the taxi fare.

Train Service
A cheaper option is to take a train from Don Mueang Train Station. Don Mueang Railway Station is located about 500 metres from BIA and provides a service to the city, to Hua Lumpong Railway Station where connections can be made to all parts of the country. Trains at Don Mueang Railway Station run from 06.06 a.m. to 20.07 p.m. The fare to Bangkok with an Ordinary Diesel Train is 5THB/person.

Buses
There are also a number of public transport buses going by the airport, just follow the signs out toward the train station. Buses towards central Bangkok are at the airport's side of the road, so don't cross the highway.

MesajSubiect: Re: Air Asia (AK / AXM)   Joi 08 Mai 2014, 22:20

Air Asia has a plan for aircraft use, turnaround and crew tasks that is unprecedented in Indian aviation. The airline proposes to use pilots to conduct airworthiness checks before flying. Its cabin crew will assist in loading cargo.

A person aware of the airline’s strategy said AirAsia had got its pilots certified by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to carry out technical checks. “There will be some engineers stationed at major airports. However, the pilots will carry out technical checks. The engineer would only be at hand to rectify any problem,” he said.

The cabin crew will help with ticketing, assist ramp agents in removing stubs from boarding passes and prepare load sheets. “There will be two loaders for baggage, but instead of the loadmaster the cabin crew will prepare load sheets to minimise on-ground time,” the source added.

AirAsia is also striving for aircraft turnaround in 20 minutes, much lower than the 30-35 minutes most Indian budget airlines manage and the 45-60 minutes full-service carriers take. The turnaround target is better than what AirAsia achieves in Malaysia. The airline is training employees at a facility in Malaysia to ensure the target is met.

Improved turnaround time will help AirAsia keep its aircraft flying for 16 block hours a day, against 12 block hours Indian budget carriers achieve. If it achieves this objective, AirAsia will offer services from 5.30 am to 11 pm.

The airline is also paying its pilots less than the competition. It is hiring pilots for Rs 3-4 lakh, but says it will pay industry rates (around Rs 5 lakh) once operations start.

AirAsia declined to comment on its business model because it is about to receive its Air Operator’s Permit. It, however, confirmed it had hired 277 employees so far, including flying crew, ground staff, ramp agents, security personnel and staff for guest services.

The source close to the airline said AirAsia wanted to begin operations with an aircraft-to-manpower ratio of less than 1:100. Low-cost carrier IndiGo had achieved a ratio of 1:98 a few years ago but it has many more planes.

AirAsia India CEO Mittu Chandilya had earlier told Business Standard: “To start with, we may have 80-100 employees per aircraft, but will bring this down to 60-65 in a year’s time. Even as we pull costs down and drive revenues up, we have to get the balance right.”

Control over cost is particularly important for an airline that has promised ‘nano’ fares to stimulate demand. “From day one, passengers should expect to get more than what they are used to now. Pricing and connectivity will be key differentiators. We want to bring fares down by 25-30 per cent,” Chandilya had said.

Unlike in Malaysia, where aviation turbine fuel costs and airport fees are low, these make 50-60 per cent of an airline’s cost of operating in India. AirAsia has planned not to fly to metros like Delhi and Mumbai, where airport charges are high.

DGCA is expected to clear AirAsia’s permit this week. AirAsia India, a venture among Malaysia’s AirAsia Berhad, Tata Sons and Telestra Tradeplace, will launch services from its Chennai hub with Airbus A320s. It has indicated it will fly to smaller towns in South India and open  new routes.
